Policing Board Welcomes New Superintendent

Herefordshire Policing Board has welcomed Superintendent Charles Hill to Herefordshire.

Superintendent Charlie Hill, took up his new post as area commander on 6 September 2010. He has responsibility for Herefordshire’s 20 local policing teams, teams of response and specialist officers, police staff and special constables.

Charlie began his police career in 1988 with the Metropolitan Police transferring to West Mercia Police in 1995 and has served in Telford, Shropshire, North Worcestershire and Force Headquarters. Charlie and has worked in a variety of roles including: response, local policing, custody, CID, public order, firearms, roads policing and as a district commander. He has also been involved in national projects and has recently been working on the Peer Review of Cumbria Constabulary’s response to the murder of 12 people by Derek Bird in June 2010.

The Herefordshire Policing Board, which is made up of West Mercia Police Authority Members: Cllr Bernard Hunt, Cllr Richard Smith and Peter Dunford meet regularly with the Area Commander to monitor delivery of the West Mercia Policing Plan in Herefordshire. At Monday’s meeting the Board also met Herefordshire’s senior command team and discussed performance, engagement activity and partnership working as well as potential policing priorities.
