West Mercia Rated Good in Policing Pledge Inspection

West Mercia Police has been graded as 'Good' in a recent Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) assessment of its delivery of the policing pledge.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) visited all 43 forces in England and Wales. They reviewed how well forces are delivering the standards they promised the public.

From 1st January this year the policing pledge sets out 10 minimum standards that police services promise to deliver. Each pledge standard and the three areas relating to how the force is working towards its delivery have been graded. HMIC has combined these assessments to give an overall grade for the force.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Edens said: "We are pleased with the results of this inspection but we are not complacent. There is always more work that can be done to give confidence and satisfaction to our communities in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire. West Mercia Police wants to do its best for the public who live, work and visit our area."

There are 10 elements of the pledge which fit into three core themes:

  • Community Engagement and Consultation
  • Contact Management and Response
  • Victim, Witness and Customer Care

Robin Bennett, chair of the Citizen Focus and Partnership Panel for West Mercia Police Authority, added: "The policing pledge is a challenging set of standards and we are really pleased with this result. Officers and staff within West Mercia Police have worked hard and deserve this recognition. The Police Authority will continue to monitor performance on behalf of the citizens of West Mercia."

The reports are published on the HMIC website.
