Oswestry Residents Asked for Views on Policing
Robin Bennett, the Chair of Shropshire Policing Board and a member of West Mercia Police Authority, is asking residents in the Oswestry area to contact him if they have concerns about policing or suggestions to improve policing in their area.
Robin Bennett explained “The Police Authority is the public’s voice in policing and we want to hear their views. Yesterday (13 September 2011) I visited Oswestry and met with Inspector Jim Stafford and Sergeant Andy Pugh to learn about the issues affecting local residents, especially issues common throughout Shropshire. For example, anti-social behaviour relating to late-night licences is a problem elsewhere and I wanted to understand the situation in Oswestry town centre.
Robin was last in Oswestry back in February when the drug GHB was causing such an issue. Robin said “Inspector Stafford and his team have really made huge strides tackling GHB with lots of targeted activity working to stop the production and supply of the drug. This work culminated in a high profile raid which has made a real impact on the problem in the town.”
