Police Authority Funds Gardening Project
A community garden project is being set up in Shrewsbury aimed at bridging the generation gap between youngsters and elderly residents. The project is being funded by the West Mercia Police Authority community safety initiatives fund which has donated £200 to buy plants and gardening tools.
Sergeant Claire Greenaway, from the town centre police station, applied for the funding after going on a “walkabout” in the Bridgeford Road, Lowfield and Armdale area with partner agencies. Also involved in the exercise were Bromford Housing, Severnside Housing, Shropshire Council and Councillor Miles Kenny.
Sergeant Greenaway said: “We looked at how we could improve the area and introduce a couple of projects to help the children work with the elderly more effectively. Gardening is a major them in this location and there are a couple of flower beds that need work doing on them. The aim is to turn this into a project for children on the estate aided by the police and some of the residents."
"The Police Authority grant will enable us to get on with the job. We are grateful for its support,” she added.
