Police Watchdog Impressed with Shropshire Police Burglary Operation

Robin Bennett, Chair of Shropshire’s Policing Board, met Supt Pete Lightwood and Chief Inspector Alan Edwards at Shrewsbury Police Station to discuss their efforts to tackle Shropshire’s recent spate of burglaries.

Shropshire has one of the lowest burglary rates in the country but recently there has been an alarming increase as reported in the Shropshire Star on 15 November 2011.

Mr Bennett discussed Shropshire Police’s ongoing operation to target and apprehend the criminals involved and was more than satisfied with the work being undertaken.

“Burglary is a horrible crime“ said Mr Bennett “and it is vital that the police are doing all that they can to find the individuals responsible. I was most impressed with the operation being run by Chief Inspector Alan Edwards and his team of dedicated burglary officers. Burglars are not welcome in Shropshire and if you choose to commit this crime you should be aware that all of the resources of Shropshire’s Territorial Policing Unit are working to bring you to justice”.

The Shropshire Policing Board, which is made up of West Mercia Police Authority members Robin Bennett, Kate Pready-James, Robin Durham, Councillor Malcolm Pate and Councillor Michael Wood , meets regularly with Shropshire’s Territorial Commander, Supt. Peter Lightwood, to monitor policing locally
