South Worcestershire Policing Board praises West Mercia Police's South Worcestershire Division on their year end performance.
South Worcestershire Policing Board has congratulated West Mercia Police’s South Worcestershire Division for their year end performance.
Zad Padda, who chaired the recent South Worcestershire Policing Board meeting said “Congratulations to Chief Supt. Jane Horwood and her whole team. They have met the challenge we set, in the Joint Policing Plan, to make a real difference to the people we serve. These results mean fewer victims of crime and a better quality of life for many people in South Worcestershire.
The public can be assured that we are not complacent and we continue to challenge the Police to provide the service local people want. For our next Policing Board meeting we will be discussing policing and the night time economy as well as Local Policing Team activity. Prior to that I shall be going on walkabout in Worcester with Local Policing Officers to see first hand what the problems are and what their job is like.”
In comparison with the previous year the performance figures ending 31 March 2010 show total recorded crime in South Worcestershire has reduced by 2,100 crimes, with nearly 300 fewer victims of domestic burglary, 55 fewer victims of serious violence and sexual offences and 30 fewer victims of robbery. Whilst sanction detection rates have improved: serious violence against the person has improved by 11 percentage points to 60%; serious sexual offences by 4 percentage points to 30%, domestic burglary by 3 percentage points to 21% and sanction detection rates for robbery have improved by 19 percentage points to 47%.
The South Worcestershire Policing Board is made up of West Mercia Police Authority Members local to South Worcestershire: Cllr Edward Sheldon MBE, Cllr Bob Bullock and Mr Zad Padda. They meet quarterly with Chief Superintendent Jane Horwood, who is responsible for policing in South Worcestershire, to monitor delivery of the West Mercia Policing Plan at Divisional Level. Their focus is on performance, community engagement and partnership working.
